Review on LibreELEC by Sean Flint

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Excellent and reliable cross-platform media player for Linux

I have been using it since 2014, when i first released my Raspberry Pi 3 to stream games from PS4/Xbone in HD with only 1GB of RAM (not even close). It can do that now! The performance has improved so much over time too; as long you follow some simple rules like not use your computer while streaming or playing anything else at all times - otherwise latency will be terrible. Plus if there's no network connection available then things get very slow indeed. So far everything works great but sometimes after switching off WiFi suddenly video stops working completely unless restarting helps me out again. There are many other software which offer similar features than libreelec does though its still free unlike most paid alternatives. If you want an open source alternative without having to pay any money this one should definitely work perfectly fine. Streaming 1080p content smoothly with just 512MB Ram was.

Pros
  • Open Source
  • Simple UI&/or setup process for beginners.
  • Great stability & good support by devs through forum threads / bug reports etc.etc..)
  • Excellent hardware decoding capabilities due 2 custom builds designed specifically around ARM CPU architecture used within their OS instead Android TV boxes made up mostly about Intel Atom processors(1x2GHz Celeron N3050) hence lack such capability compared o them
Cons
  • Not bad
