I oil and wax my John Boos block once a month as it's a really big cutting board, quite expensive and important to protect and look after. "Essential Mystery Oil" is easy to apply, penetrates the wood and washes out well. Whatever oil they sell seems to be working. The board cream (wax) was difficult to work with. It's difficult to squeeze out of the tube (and good luck squeezing!), and it stays thick, with plenty of wasted product when you wipe it off, and inevitably goes through a dozen paper towels before the surface is clean. still noticeably waxy. I've switched to Clark cutting board wax with a round applicator and find it MUCH easier to apply a thin, even coat with virtually no loss of product. I recommend Clark's over John Boos for board cream, but John Boos cutting board oil is perfectly fine and inexpensive and should last a while.
