I replaced an Epson Workforce multifunction printer, also tabloid (11" x 17"), with this one. Epson never worked properly but was able to scan both sides of the paper from the ADF. This one can't. Many reviewers have reported problems with this printer connecting and staying on a wireless network. I have a wired network with a switch about 5 feet from the printer and am having connectivity issues. I have two computers connected to the same switch as the printer. Installing the Brother software immediately recognized the printer on a Windows 10 Home computer. The software couldn't find the printer on the second computer running Windows 10 Pro no matter what I did. I was able to ping the printer and the network scanner found it, but the software couldn't find it in any way. I tried entering the IP address manually by disabling the firewall and antivirus, but nothing helped. A half hour online chat with Brother tech support didn't help - she advised me to "contact my computer manufacturer" which is .me (I build my own). When I asked her if it was possible to connect the printer via USB and still be online, she said yes. but i had to ask. She told me to reset the printer's network card using the LCD panel and it worked until I rebooted and the printer disappeared. I ended up connecting the printer directly with a USB cable and that fixed the problem, but I realize the problems are either with the network card or with the software. Two other complaints: (1) It's not obvious that when you load the paper into the manual feeder, you have to press the small lever at the bottom of the feeder. (2) If you don't set the software to print brightly and with high quality, your graphics will look washed out. Otherwise it's a solid, well-built machine that outperforms the Epson Workforce. Ink costs are probably moderate (for inkjet printers).
