Review on 💻 Vantec USB 3.0 SATA IDE Adapter ISA225 by Mark Erandio

This is basically as expected: a pair of cables to connect a PATA or SATA hard drive via USB3. I bought it specifically for the PATA USB3 capability as better SATA adapters/enclosures are commonly used for this purpose and most PATA solutions are USB2 which is a bottleneck even for older PATA drives. It's not as elegant as an enclosure, but this kit at least allows me to roughly double the maximum serial throughput of PATA drives compared to USB2 (I got 70MB/s on the pair I tested, which is actually twice that much is as I expected from USB2). .) The only real problem is that the USB cable doesn't pass SMART data, which is quite inexplicable since some old USB2 cases I've used pass SMART information to the host. It's also the right solution to get the best performance out of old PATA hard drives.
