Genuine Terk Volume Control. or was. An excellent product, a sophisticated DSP based block with sophisticated circuitry that elegantly controls excessive dynamics without sacrificing your sound. With a good sound system, it can make very dynamic films much more ear-friendly (Transformers and similar films with constant explosions, orchestral crescendos, etc.) and has retained its musical quality and image well. Now if you order a Terk instead, you get an Audiovox branded box that looks identical on the outside BUT is completely different on the inside and the sound quality is amazingly poor. The Audiovox replacement uses some cheap op-amps and minimal analog circuitry, no doubt this is considerably cheaper to manufacture for them than the original, and they probably thought no one would notice or care, I noticed right away and thought so be broken amazingly thorough and completely destroys the life of your sound, adding significant noise, distortion and pumping in the process. If you care about your sound, you don't want to hear about this disgusting device. To earn a star, the Audiovox version could potentially be useful for automatically driving loud commercials for late night TV watching through a small or low-fidelity speaker, where low volume levels help eliminate audio junk to mask. It controls really screaming car commercials and so on like that. My original Turk survived the storm surges and died without realizing at the time what a sad day it was. . Since then I've ordered Terk from multiple places and continue to receive this piece of Audiovox junk instead. I hope this review saves others the trouble of coming back and trying to explain audio quality issues to the support staff.
