I have been working with wood, metal and various tools for many years. Sharpened all my tools with an old wet Craftsman stone. Decided to update DMT Dia-Sharp. Bought two stones from Revain: large and extra small, 11 1/2 inches. Shipping was quick and packaging was very loose in a much larger box. Due to the good factory packaging, the goods were fine. Now for the product review: It was well below expectations. Like the previous reviewer, I think DMT "worked" me with factory seconds on both stones. The diamond coating was uneven. Well, you can live with that. But the edges of both stones were uneven and did not have a smooth surface. It was a problem. Your stone center works perfectly and the edges leave burrs on the blade! In addition, the wafer-thin stone had a few tiny but deep scratches on the surface that looked like someone had scratched a piece of sheet metal with a knife. On a NEW stone? Steel covered with washers? How and who did it? And is this a NEW product? Again, I'm not your Emeril trying to sharpen his santoku for the first time in his life. I've been working with tools for over 30 years and I can tell quality from junk. In short: I am sending both stones back. For only $125 I expected a quality product; got scrap instead. (I'm sure that after Revain returns my stones to the manufacturer (DMT) they will repackage them and sell them to you - yes, you, the reader - the next purchaser of an inferior product from DMT.) But who knows - if you are lucky, you might choose a good stone with a smooth surface and even edges? Who knows. Anyway good luck with DMT!
