I was obsessed with this speaker. Every internet video, store test and review I could find. I've listened to all the competing Sony speakers, JBL Extreme 2, Boombox, Ion Audio, hooked up Bose Revolve+, even bought (and returned) Soundboks 2 and was lucky enough to hear a sample of Devialet Phantom. I prefer smooth, clean, deep bass. That's the essence of music for me. If the bass is right, it brings out all the other frequencies to their best advantage. Considering the price, there's nothing better than Tufton. Sound quality at what I believe to be normal listening levels (loud enough to require a small amount of vocal amplification when speaking) is 1/10 the price of a Phantom (since I bought the Tufton on sale for $299). The absolute amount of bass is equal to or better than the Boombox, but it's deeper and cleaner with the Tufton. It deviates from the JBL in the mids and highs. Sony doesn't even come close in terms of overall sound quality. Connected Boses have excellent stereo separation but lack bass definition and treble clarity. They cost twice as much. Tufton has built-in stereo simulation, which I appreciated when switching from mono to stereo on my phone, and it certainly impresses. It's not the same as two separate speakers like Bose, but it's better than nothing and a lot more than a gimmick. Soundbox 2 was a disappointment. I literally listened to it for 5 minutes and put it back in the box. Sure, it gets REALLY loud and sounds great at high volumes, but at normal listening levels the bass is completely absent and the highs are tinny. If you're throwing an outdoor techno party for 100 people, Soundboks are for you, otherwise they're not. The Tufton sounds great right out of the box once you tweak the bass and treble to your liking, but it really shines with an external equalizer like the one in Spotify on my iPhone. My 8 year old son said one word of the review was "smooth", my wife was "clear". My 10 year old son said he didn't like it because he was afraid of things falling off the walls. While a bit dramatic, it's a good representation of the quantity and quality of sound from the package. As many have said, the main downside is that you can't connect 2 Tufton and play in true stereo. If I could, I would buy another one today. Otherwise 100% satisfied!
