Just pay extra and get a Minix or Nvidia Shield
I've had a Minix for years but OTA updates stopped a while ago and it runs Android 5. Still, it always is even better than this. I've tried it on 2 TVs and with 2 different HDMI cables and the video output was terrible - it's by no means 4k, although various apps ask for its output. Also, the sound was so low I had to turn up the volume on the TV and even then it was barely audible. I've also played around with all available settings to no avail. The UI seems to be a limited Android option and I couldn't figure out how to use the custom launcher. In general, I returned it and just paid extra for a decent Minix or Nvidia thing.
