Crispy, chewy and weird after washing but works well

It's weird but not entirely bad. They are not as soft and flexible as regular kitchen towels. You can definitely tell this is a quirky sci-fi sponge-towel hybrid. They soak up liquids like magic and leave nothing behind. However, the color is terrible and it looks like I use hospital sheets to wipe my countertops. After washing according to the manufacturer's instructions, they dry out into crusty sheets that won't lay flat. Not a terrible bug, but they can't be used for some purposes. For example, I like to have a clean paper towel ready for teaspoons and drops every morning. I wanted to use them instead. After washing (and air drying) they become so oddly lumpy and uneven that it's impossible to put a spoon on them. They're not bad for general purposes and wash well without staining. Any rough use will quickly ruin the towel, so be careful not to drop the pieces. We just toss them in the compost when they get dirty or crumbly. I won't buy them again. For the price, I expected them to soften and drier back to flat sheets. Very expensive for what you get.
