Review on πŸ”‹ DEVMO 2 Pcs High Voltage Boost Converter: Efficient ZVS Step-up Booster Module (8-32V to 45-390V DC-DC) by Ted Higdem

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Positive and negative results; Beautiful unit!

Although this power supply claims 45-390 volts, it actually produces two identical outputs: +45 to +390 VDC and -45 to -390 VDC simultaneously, the maximum difference is 780 V. Two sockets track more Or less. A precision potentiometer with 25 turns sets the output voltage. The output is not floating but tied to a common input ground. The two 10uF aluminum electrolytic capacitors on the two outputs are rated for 400V, so it's probably best to run this thing at 300V or less. If you're only using the positive (+) output, it might be a good idea to lightly load the negative (-) output so it doesn't float too high, and open the cap on the negative rail - possibly unnecessarily - goodies only BB exercise. The device has stabilizing resistors at the output, so the output voltage drops to a safe level within about 10 seconds when it is switched off. This is a regulated switching power supply. The output voltage does not follow the input voltage, but is independent of the input voltage if the supply voltage is sufficient. One reviewer stated that he needed high voltage and 700mA to cover; Assuming 300VDC or so that would be 210W, well above the rated and fairly decent 40W. Another (3 stars) stated that it took him a while to figure out that the output voltage was regulated by a tiny screw . please guys This product is for people who have a basic knowledge of electronics or aren't afraid to google a little to find out what they might not know. Yes, the documentation could be a bit better, but then they would have to charge more. The trim pot on this device is similar to the 25-turn Bourns device; just a trim pot here in the US is $14.66. Find out. I recommend this unit, I plan to use it to provide +200V to power an old eBay 6E5 Fluorescent "Tuning Eye" if you remember those old AM radios. I think it will be good. Just don't lick the output when it's set to 300V to see if it's on. Ouch! Use a voltmeter instead. If you don't have a voltmeter, buy a voltmeter first. If you're not sure what a volt is, you should start with lower voltages. 1.5 volts for example. Buy an AA battery and measure. Electrics and electronics are not that complicated. But learn a little before you start messing around with hundreds of volts. Learn, live long and prosper. In this order.
