Review on 🔧 Optimized Kool Stop MTB Mountain Bike Brake Pads by Jake Hill

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Incredible stopping power

These pads are amazing. I only have a couple of these (rear brakes only) on an old 26" mountain bike that I've tried my best to clean the rim on, but admittedly this is no longer the case and parts of the surface are far from flat or smooth (aluminum is bumped in places). Despite all that, I have fantastic stopping power. If the bike still had front brakes and I put those pads on there's probably a good chance I'll end up getting pulled over. I'm not a power rider or anything, but I'm not a little guy. And I like to push anything on wheels to top speed whenever possible, brakes are very important to me (don't know why no rider with even a modicum of common sense would like them) and I really thought I had to throw this bike away to get something newer with good brakes (like even disc brakes only). Even if these pads will only serve me. 6 months, I will replace them with the same ones anyway. I've been slowly replacing all the worn or degraded stuff on this old bike and these pads are pretty much the last thing he needs. I'm a stingy guy who doesn't want to buy another bike before I have to, so almost no one will steal my old one! It's also great that you can still get a quality product for old cantilever brakes. With many modern products (not only or necessarily bicycles), after the release of a new product, it seems more difficult to maintain the old one. Cantilever brakes - I know I'll at least have good stopping power! I just can't express how good these pads are. I think I should also add that the cables and all other hardware are also original (e.g. over 20 years old) and the pads still work perfectly. Usually you have to replace all associated nodes to keep something in top working order, but this is a clear exception.
