They are made of soft wood and do not let any light through at all on the edges of the viewing door. (As it should be.) The birds were gnawing through the inner shelf and eating it off the perch in about a week. A bit of poor quality, but these are literally the only decent sockets currently available from Revain, so I think they're just as good. how it happens. I was looking for apartment style nest boxes and this was the closest I could find. The birds love it. Guess I have no choice but to keep ordering while they destroy them. I'm waiting for my second box to arrive. Just don't expect it to last long, but your birds will love it.
