Review on ๐Ÿ”ง ACDelco GM OEM 174-1217 Brake Master Cylinder with Seal & Retainer by Chris Hall

Works well on 2011 GMC Terrain

This master cylinder is easy to install. It comes with everything you need for installation including new plastic bottle cages. You'll need to reuse your old bottle, so I suggest using a clean brake can to clean it out. Move the radiator overflow to the side, it makes the job easier. I used a vacuum pump to get as much brake fluid out of the reservoir as possible. Place a towel under the main brake and brake booster as brake fluid is extremely toxic and corrosive, especially to paint. Disconnect the brake fluid level sensor then loosen the 2 flare nuts on the side before removing the 2 nuts holding the main sensor to the brake booster. Once the nuts are off, loosen the pad nuts, trying not to miss. Installation is the reverse of this, using the supplied o-ring from the main line to the brake booster and filling the bottle with fresh fluid. I also made a blademaster, but judging by how quickly it happened I'm pretty sure these blocks are already being made at the factory. Don't forget to bleed the brakes afterwards. Not difficult at all, maybe 30-45 minutes. * Signs of major master cylinder failure where the soft pedal hit the floor and blackish brake fluid. **If you don't have a high-end diagnostic scanner, you can reset the ABS module to restore pedal feel after installation by hitting a gravel road, increasing speed and applying the brakes. You'll thank me for that later.

Pros
  • Pressure tested for safe, reliable braking
Cons
  • No paint required
