I have an external Apple tried DVD players, but I didn't like them. As an Apple fanatic, it's very rare that I don't like one of their products, but I've burned myself on two iMacs from the boot and eject slot malfunctions. The external LG has manual tray loading that seems much less likely to fail. This is a very lightweight and portable external drive. So far I've only used it to watch and copy DVDs to my Mac Book Air, but it's worked great every time. Very important. I suggest keeping the box and foam for storage. The software that came with it might be useful on a Windows computer, but on my Mac it was plug and play so nothing needed to be installed.
