During my college days I worked at a student carnival where several large theaters were built entirely out of wood. The erection of these structures required the labor of hundreds of college students throughout the week, working 24 hours a day, seven days a week (literally day and night). It also required a lot of bolts, and that's where these shovels came in handy. Drilling bolt holes requires drilling through several adjacent 2x4s, and conventional paddle bits often stop biting after the first bolt is drilled, and after a few bolts conventional paddle bits become dull, both of these situations require you to put yourself in and really make an effort to cut a hole. However, these bits cut through wood like butter without much whimper. I can understand the other reviewer's frustration because I actually had some friends try to use my bits in a drill press and their drill bits just couldn't provide the necessary torque to keep these aggressive bits turning. Combined with my Bosch 18V cordless drill/driver with LED light, these bits saved me a lot of trouble. There were times when I'd drill a hole in the pitch dark corner of a corner in the middle of the night, between two bobby pins, standing at the top of the stairs (I know, bad idea) where I had no leverage, and everything I shone, where I needed hole. Point the tip of the bolt at him and shoot. The threads hook very quickly, pulling the bit straight through the wood with minimal leverage, effort, or effort on your part. Best of all, they actually cut longer than traditional spade bits, so you don't have to change them as often, so they're sort of worth it.
