For a number of years I've had an old school "helping hands" set with two alligator clips and a magnifying glass. The terminals started to wear out and I kept fumbling with them to get them in the right place to solder. I came across this tool while looking for a replacement. Because of the price I would like to expect a lot, but I would be happy if it works. I was surprised. Is the base solid and can it be powder coated? Coated with anything or painted in any way, nice and smooth, great fit and finish. It's nice and heavy too. Each of the levers has a smooth gooseneck flex and the magnets are STRONG. They don't fall or get knocked off easily. You really have to grab them and lift them up. The rubber protectors that slip over the alligator clips are thick but easy to install to protect your electronics/surface. My box even had an iron holder. All parts have an excellent fit and finish. I feel like I was surprised I didn't pay more.
