Tried to get the $160 backup camera to work but the signal was too weak for my 30 foot toy dump truck and 20 foot F- 150 This camera is by far the best! An external range extender is absolutely necessary to reduce the distance to the monitor in the truck. The signal is stable, the picture is amazing. I only have one complaint which I will address below. This camera is the single most important safety upgrade I've made to my tow kit. It's so nice to see someone approach me from behind so I can walk over for them to come over. In heavy traffic on multi-lane highways, I know exactly where the cars are around me. I KNOW it's safe to switch lanes instead of crossing my fingers and hoping I don't hit anyone. The big screen replaces my useless rearview mirror. This helps me see cars that are directly behind me and are hidden by the side mirrors. My blood pressure is MUCH lower with the addition of this chamber. The only downside to this camera is "night vision". Great when there is little light or the lights of cars behind keep the camera in "day" mode. (The screen can also be "dimmed" so it's not too bright.) But if it's dark enough, the LEDs around the camera lens will turn on and the image will go RAW. (See attached photos) I spoke to customer service about this and they insisted that the camera glass must be dirty on the outside. They were so unwilling to do anything that I returned the camera and replaced it with the same one. The second chamber was exactly the same. IMHO I think the LEDs are bouncing off the inside of the glass in front of the lens. Maybe dust in there? The bottom line is that night vision is useless when the LED lights are on. I wish I could turn off the LED backlight. Overall I like this camera. I don't tow much after dark, so I'll tolerate the night vision issue. As soon as the car approaches, its headlights still turn off the LED lights.
