Cheap alternative to replacing a DVD/CD drive

My DVD/CD drive on my laptop failed about six months ago and I had to reformat the laptop. Fortunately, there were no compatibility problems with my laptop with an external DVD/CD drive. There were very vague instructions, but in general everything is simple. For those who aren't that tech savvy, this pack consists of four parts. Two USB cables, a driver CD and an external DVD/CD drive. The two USB cables are designed to be used separately, but both must be connected. One powers the DVD/CD drive, the other transmits information or lets it "talk" to your computer. The driver is for the old Windows 98 (a boxed monitor with boot steps/hourglass you'd play Solitaire on. Remember that?) and the DVD/CD drive itself. The DVD/CD drive itself is designed to connect and work with newer operating systems Microsoft systems (Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8). .

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Sad packaging
