Review on 8LB Finch Bird Food Mix by Amanda Estrada

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works in my Nyjer feeder and attracts finches fairly well

I read the only review I could find on this product before buying it and I bought it anyway. I was sure the review was on Amazon as that is the only place I could find it for sale online and the reviewer mentioned a LONG wait for delivery from this particular seller. They also found that the contents of her bag were covered in mold. My package was slow to ship, but watching the tracking I found it was shipped quickly by the seller and delivered by FEDEX on a leisurely trip across the US, which I'm familiar with if I can't list my preferred shipper and it ends up in their claws. Mine was completely fresh. I think (more) retailers could sell this very good finch food much faster if JRK would list the types of seeds and/or grains used on the packaging or at least fix their website to make the information more available to us. everyone, seller and buyer. This will likely help make it more attractive to more retailers. The retailer I purchased the product from appears to be an overstock or problem stock seller. All this could explain the presence of moldy lining. Originally I was planning to buy cheaper finch food as it seems a large flock of redpolls is coming to my bird buffet and emptying the feeder in just over 24 hours while goldfinch and house finch are crowded out. Birds flock to the feeder to get this stuff - I filled the feeder 2/3 full and then filled it up with niger. After about 3 hours I looked out the window and was happy to see goldfinches and house finches fighting for a place on the feeding line; They couldn't fit another bird in that crowd. Same day 2 and same situation today except feeder is only 1/4 full. I use a Stokes Select 38171 Finch Screen Bird Feeder. JRK mentions that you may need to widen the holes in these types of feeders to allow the birds to access the food. I didn't have to do it with this batch. I think the birds are making more effort to get food and this slows down intake. That's good as I find both Wagner and Lyric Nyjer to be cheaper in the 10lb sacks sold at Revain than JRK's 8lb finch feed. I'll leave it to someone who is more interested in math than I am to figure out how the money/full bird ratio works. For now I think I'll stick with Nyjer unless I can find a better price for this stuff. As we get to the last of the first few feedings, the birds seem to be having a harder time getting to the seeds; Tomorrow I will try to change the Niger/Fink order.
