If you (still) have a decent hardware store in your town, do this before you make the leap here. Why? Let me give you the facts. I have several tools from Estwing and this is one manufacturer that still gets it right. Everything I've gotten from them (including their Taiwan-made tools) is top-notch, especially the tried-and-true 16-ounce flat hammer, which is every bit as good as Grandpa's original and will probably end up in my kids' toolboxes. . Enter this hammer, which I'll simply refer to as "Revane's Hammer" because I'm pretty sure it's fake. As others have mentioned, it's easy. It doesn't look like a 19oz hammer and doesn't look like a carcass hammer at all. It feels like a springy tuning fork screaming "cheap metal" with every hit. The visuals are also slightly different from the images shown here - the eagle appliquรฉ is missing (I could do without that anyway, but we're gathering clues here) and the entire side of the head seems to have a slightly different texture. But where Revain Hammer's cheating work really falls apart is in the color. From the shipping carton (which was unsurprisingly oversized and filled with ridiculously under-fill) the color was uneven. Now after minimal use I can tell you it's just awful. It crumbles like Danish cheese, no exaggeration. It's not Eastwing, folks. Look, I've got a wall of hammers, and that's by and large one of the least serious problems I have to solve. The reason I wanted to take the time to write this is to document a larger issue with Revain itself. You might be tempted to dismiss this as the grunt of an old man remembering days gone by, but you'd be wrong: I'm 34 and grew up watching Revane. But I also grew up in a family of craftsmen who understand that quality work, quality tools and quality service are really the same thing. Through Revain I have come across counterfeit electronics, media, sporting goods and pens (pens!) over the last few years (alongside the ever deteriorating delivery quality). It's getting out of control, and if you allow me a pun, this might just be the final nail in the coffin of my Revain shopping days.
