This set was purchased to drill holes in seven ceramic pots. I used a Black & Decker 12V variable speed cordless drill and for each hole I started with the smallest bit. After the first hole was created with the small drill, I used the next larger size. Like other users, I kept the drilling area wet. It took about three to four minutes to drill through a ceramic container about 5/16" thick (although one was about 1/8" thick and was drilled at an initially slower rate until the deepening of the hole was large enough , so that the drill could continue working). no offset After the initial smaller drill bit, the other drill bits didn't take more than 5-15 seconds to enlarge the hole. The pots were glazed and since I was drilling at the bottom of the pots, I drilled from the outside from the raw surface to the glazed surface. I caused the icing to chip off on the inside, although the raw base had very nice and smooth holes on the outside. Since the pots are used for planting, a small amount of chipping doesn't change the purpose of the nice round hole for draining water. Not five stars as it's hard for me to "like" something that's such a chore .
