Due to the many bad reviews I hesitated before buying. It sounded like there was going to be a big headache and a lot of problems, so I took my time and researched everything. I've identified why the reviewers felt it was a bad buy, and I want to help you understand what they went wrong and why these issues aren't a concern for you. The first problem I want to solve is cable connectors. Many reviewers say the wires come out right away and can't stay inside. Let me tell you about the problem, if you look at the photo of the connectors I took you will see that there is a small square of metal that moves up and down. When you turn the screws you want the wire to be in this square and when you tighten the screws the square moves up and pulls on the wire. Many reviewers simply slide a wire under the square and try to tighten it to the wire. Additionally, numerous reviewers complain that 10 gauge wire is not suitable. If you read the specs you'll see that it's only designed for the largest 12 gauge, so obviously it won't fit. Also, you don't need 10 gauge wire as long as you stay within the amperage range. Speaking of amperage, this device is designed to continuously drive only 80% of its maximum amperage, which is 16 amps. Another reviewer mentioned that he set it to trickle charge at 13.7V and that it charged at 14.2V. He said he called customer service and there was a language barrier. Well I actually think it was a misunderstanding as the instructions say that when charging LifePO4 batteries when the battery is fully charged the device goes into float mode and charges at 14.2V for 2 hours and then continues at 13.7. These are the default settings. Then there are all the reviews complaining about the device heating up and overheating. This can sometimes be a legitimate error, but more than likely it's mostly because they were installed incorrectly. If you look at the photos, you can see that the device is designed to dissipate heat from the metal plate on the back of the device. It states that there must be room at the top and bottom for airflow. I would even say that you might have problems installing this in a box and you shouldn't install this in the sun either. Install in a location that allows heat to escape from the back of the device. Be sure to read and follow the instructions. The device is a cheap option, but not a bad option. By the way, not weatherproof. Crazy how many people ask that. it should also not be used in high humidity. If you want something cheap and simple, go for it. If you want bells and whistles, spend $200 on an MPPT.
