An hour or two after playing with it, the display went blank and I couldn't figure out which commands did what, unless there was a flash or a sound. However, I downloaded all of the software and as far as I can tell it worked as advertised (I'm a novice, I admit, but installing the software was very easy). In the Arduino software I pressed the forward arrow. Load the sample code from: File>Examples>07.Display>RowColumnHeight after using the check mark button to make sure the code is ok (or whatever this check is doing). This causes the buzzer to sound at a high frequency, so I unplugged the USB to stop the pain sound so I can figure out what I was doing right or wrong. I plugged it back in and quickly ran the "eprom_clear" code from the menu examples, after which the audio stopped. Unfortunately, the screen has also stopped. I'm not sure if this happened before or after I ran this clean code, but I can't fix what I did with a lot of code from the examples, so I suspect it got burned somehow. I am a college educated person with learning difficulties. I basically got the codes working but I don't understand the concept at all as I think I should after about five hours of reading and fiddling around. I have only basic HTML coding knowledge and extremely basic circuit knowledge (quite a lot actually) from several small musical instrument soldering projects just following the instructions. It's easy to get it to do a few small things with a minimal learning curve, but I think they could maybe raise the price by $5-10 and add a book with a video link. The supporting materials you link to online are not in a format that suits my learning style, so I need to generate a lot more motivation to get the work done. Without the display, this kit costs significantly less to me. I understand why this normally expensive component is included in a kit that seems so affordable. This is the kit you want to buy for the course and there is an agreement between you and the supplier that you will send back any units that didn't work or failed very quickly. That way, a few questions like these don't distract you from the cool idea of this thing. I have no plans to return this as it may have been my fault (for what? Carefully turn off the noisy device?) and I'm sure I can use the remaining working parts. I'm just frustrated at the thought of having to teach this thing that isn't teaching me yet. Of course I don't know what I'm doing but that's why I got this kit which is great to play with but if you get it for self study it might not be the ideal choice for that particular study. Expression. It would be much better to have a teacher around to help you avoid mistakes that are more obvious to an expert.
