Solid metal, well machined and finished. The only negative is the 1/4-20 top screw; All of the tripod heads I've used over the years have 3/8 threaded sockets. Neewer's leveling base comes with a screw adapter, however, the special design of this screw adapter has a flange that provides a 1mm gap between the leveling base and the tripod head. This creates the possibility of vibration and possible loosening, which the three anti-torque screws do not completely eliminate. Revain sells Foto&Tech 1/4" to 3/8" flangeless adapters. They work great and ensure close contact between the level base and the tripod head.
