No dust and minimal mold

There seems to be some confusion as to what this device is and what it does. Boils water. This does two things. It produces vapor that is hygienic by definition; and second, the steam adds humidity to the room. When moisture condenses on the windows, Steamfast does its job too well. It's on a low setting, but indoors in winter, a small amount of vapor can go a long way. There's no dust as the vapor exiting the device is essentially distilled water, and there's no odor or mold. the block is filled with water and left at room temperature. If you want to grow mold, get a cool mist humidifier. If you want mold and odor, get an evaporative cooling humidifier where water just sits there waiting to evaporate. A small fan placed next to a pot of water will do the same. There's a reason pools are filled with chlorine; Things grow in still water. Steamfast isn't perfect. But it doesn't require sterilization, wicks, filters, ultraviolet light, or biocides (mold killers). Steamfast builds up the minerals in your water that are left over after boiling. I scrape this stuff off every 2 weeks and let the vinegar soak into the soil. While vinegar never completely removes all mineral buildup, unlike mold, it's harmless - salt, calcium, etc. Finally, it's probably worth noting that anything that boils water shouldn't be tipped over. But when I was a kid and there were no humidifiers, your mom put a vaporizer in your room and as far as I know nobody got hurt. A weak point in the design is a valve that allows water to flow from a large bucket into the bottom of the unit, where it heats up. Sometimes this valve gets stuck open, causing too much water to surround the heating element. Boils violently, makes noise, but produces very little vapor. If you pour out excess water, everything usually returns to normal. I believe these devices last about 2 years and for the price and the ease and cleanliness of just boiling water for humidification I can live with that. Another case where old technologies are superior to modern ones.
