The first time I used one of these thermometers was at a friend's house when I was cooking steaks. Before that, I used some low-tech solutions at home (like cutting up meat to see if it's done). I noticed the brand because I wanted to buy it, but imagine my surprise when it cost seventy dollars! Not wanting to spend *the* money, I settled on one of the cheaper competitors and ended up going with it simply because I liked the fact that it had a beer bottle opener on it and I like to drink beer when I'm grilling. better than I thought and costs about three times cheaper! Some other points I find useful are: - It turns on automatically when you take the probe out and turns off automatically when you put the probe back in. spot.--LCD backlight makes it easy to use outdoors at night or in low-light situations.--Celsius and Fahrenheit measurement.--Temperature memory function to remember the last temperature (not used yet, but see it Manual).--Magnetic backing that makes it easy to attach to any metal surface (I keep mine on the hob). -- Automatic screen rotation depending on which side you hold it (it flips if you turn it upside down so you can read the numbers better). And of course a bottle opener. Would definitely recommend to others looking for an accurate, easy to use cooking thermometer!
