I bought these for a 29 gallon freshwater aquarium that despite frequent water changes still had too high nitrate levels for my liking. The tank only has a standard 50 gallon Aqueon HOB filter, making it difficult to install additional filter media. However, I basically cut a small hole in the top of this bag (penetrating both sides) and then attached it to whatever grip area I could find in the filter. It then just hangs right where the filtered water returns to the tank. Is that the nicest solution? no However, it lowers nitrates in just a few hours (went from a decent dark red to orange in the API master kit nitrate test). I'm sure if you have a canister filter (or even a possibly larger HOB filter) there is a more elegant solution to make this possible, but it does its job well either way.
