Review on Garmin Approach S6 Golf Watch, Lightweight by Marc Alvarez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Light, colorful and precise.

This is my second Garmin Approach golf watch and I am very happy with it. I don't think they're worth $399 if you're upgrading from an older model, but if you're looking for a new one or have the cash, this is a good watch. Pros: - Color screen. There were no problems viewing the screen in different lighting conditions. I rarely use the light button. Works very well on a sunny day. CourseView maps are a nice bonus. I don't really use this feature on every hole, but it's very handy when you want to get accurate downtime in yards or distance to a turn or obstacle. Enjoy using this feature. This is probably the biggest difference between the Garmin and some other golf watches on the market. You can place the flag on the green field where you want. Easy and uncomplicated. And exactly. Most of my golf friends have golf watches/GPS from other brands and can't. I prefer to use this function on watches. Bluetooth technology. Allows you to sync your results to your phone and receive text notifications straight to your watch. It even gives you the option to only do this when you're actually playing golf. I don't actually use this feature as I don't like being disturbed on the pitch, but there's some added value if you choose to use it. - Super light. They tried it with a Garmin S3, it was noticeably easier. Neutral: battery life. That's pretty standard for golf watches and comparable to older Garmin models. I can usually play about 27 holes of golf before needing to charge the watch. If you use the Bluetooth function while playing golf, you will get a little less. If you only use the clock function, the battery life lasts for weeks and weeks. I think mine stayed at 100% for at least a week. - Characteristics of learning. I've used them a couple of times on the driving range but didn't find them that great. If you're trying to learn or really need improvement I see some value in the range, but for more advanced golfers (those who spend money on these watches) they probably won't be used much. Cons: - The lock screen/UI doesn't seem as good as the Garmin S3. On the old model, just swipe your finger across the screen to unlock. For this you have to press the button and then press the lock button on the screen. Sometimes it takes me multiple attempts to unlock. The watch's display is a bit large. I don't have very large hands/wrists so it's sometimes difficult for me to use a glove. I usually have to loosen the watch strap a bit to be able to wear it on my wrist. The display is large, but there is a lot of "wasted space" around the color display. I am sure that in the new models they will find a way to get rid of that black area on the face to make the display even bigger.
