I'm a fan of low aperture lenses and this was a great addition to my Canon EF 50mm f/1.8. It's a relatively small lens and weighs next to nothing compared to some standard zooms. A sharp turn once all the way down. It also has a metal mount, a reasonable filter size, and barely extends (maybe half an inch) when focusing. I used mine but bought it in mint condition, which just goes to show that Canon really cares about their products lasting. This is a pretty good lens on a budget. However, I have a few complaints about this lens. Even though it has a metal bracket, it still feels like a plastic toy. Not as strong as 50 mm, for example. But it would still be nice to have a more powerful and dense lens. Although this lens is not an image stabilizer, with such a short frame and such a small zoom you don't need one. However, I do miss the USM - this lens is slow to focus and emits a loud squeak. Focus creep is almost non-existent except in low-light situations. Although I'm lying, I would like the angle of action of the MF ring to not be that large. Overall, for the price I paid, I'm happy with what I got. It's based on an old design, so the average DSLR user might not accept it immediately. Optics and glass are good as usual from Canon. Not the best build quality and I miss USM. I'd save up for a Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 IS USM or a Canon EF 28mm f/2.8 IS USM, but it's a nice little lens.
