Yes, you need that for your Garmin!
It's small and it works. I could use 1/2 to 1 foot more cable, but that's my problem. :) The indicator light is good and the charging cable is cleverly wired for the Nuvi 550 so it works as a charger and not a computer connection as stated in another review which assured me I was getting the right product for my needs. I use the nΓΌvi 550 as a motorcycle GPS and it works great with it. It's just that these cables aren't necessarily meant for outdoor use, so I need to do something about that (they oxidize on the connectors, so maybe some dielectric grease to fix that). If you have a Garmin with this connector, this is definitely the cable (and charger!) you need!
