It worked and is a good option as it can be quite difficult to find in stores. I believe it should be for puncture jars, not self-sealing ones. The stores near me seemed to only have self-closing jars, but I got them working anyway. On one of the two cans, I had to trim the liner a bit at the top of the can (not the tool). But in any case, if you use the tool for its intended purpose (or even don't use it), it will do. work and my air conditioner is blowing cold again.
