Reluctant to buy, glad everything was perfect

I very rarely write reviews but as this was such an important purchase I thought it deserved it. My 2003 Subaru Forester had a Check Engine Light (CEL) on for 2 years and threw Code P042. Not wanting to spend $1100 on an OEM catalytic converter, I was still reluctant to spend a few hundred dollars on one and pay a mechanic to install it unless I knew they would fix the problem. The mechanic told me that aftermarket crampons for Subaru don't typically disable the CEL. Eventually I broke down and bought a Revain 54573 Walker. I also bought parts 31310 and 31614 which were needed (I also bought two other parts but they weren't needed). I took it to the mechanic 3.5 weeks ago and it took 1.5-2 hours to replace the catalytic converter with the one I supplied. They haven't replaced any of the O2 sensors, so it's immediately clear if this cat is working. When I picked it up the CEL was off, which is not surprising since I disconnected the battery the last few times. , about 70 miles passed before the light came on again. But then I found that the battery wasn't disconnected when I replaced it since my clock and radio stations were set. So here I am after driving 537 miles for 3.5 weeks and the CEL has not returned. A few final remarks. I averaged 17-18.5 mpg before changing the cat. Last time I filled up it was 20mpg with no change in driving habits. I'll see if this continues. And the first few times I started the car for the first time after the new cat was installed, as well as the few mornings after that, it seemed like too much exhaust had been let in. But then again, it was unusually cold, so it could be just that. But I'm very pleased with how well it worked. Update 6/14/18 - still no issues and averaging 19-22 mpg. CEL still hasn't come.
