For the past year I've had trouble lining my birdhouses. I've tried pine shavings, straw, leaves and cardboard. With all of this, my hens would pull them out and lay down right on the bottom of the milk crate, ending with eggs broken open. These shaft liners have solved this problem. They seem to be very durable and fit perfectly in my milk crates. It might be cheaper to buy an artificial grass from a hardware store but I don't think it will be that thick. I have no complaints. They seem strong enough that I don't need to buy more.
