I bought this thermometer to replace another infrared thermometer that used a poorly designed 9 volt battery compartment that eventually lost contact with the wires; this one uses 2 AAA. That's the only reason I bought it. It was inaccurate out of the box and I had to calibrate it. I can't just pull the trigger (like in the previous case) to get a reading. You must pull the trigger and then select "Max" mode to get a one-time reading (e.g. to fry in oil at 350 degrees). I already want to replace it and have only used it once.
