Comes in a case as shown and comes with some extra pads if you wish to add more to the package (see image). The padding is on the thin side, but once the helmet is on the head it fits well so you usually don't need to add extra padding. There are openings on the front, top and two sides, and on the back you have LED lights (with a micro USB charging port). The switch needs to be pressed for about 3 seconds for the light to come on, and when you press it again, there are three different flashing modes (fast flashing or slow flashing). I ordered a medium adult size but for some reason it fits well. my 10 year old son. So I think if you want for your 10-12 year old please take the adult medium. It fits me fine (my head is bigger) but I would recommend the large adult size. I can further adjust the grip on the back to tighten it to fit my head perfectly to keep the helmet from falling off or moving. I give this feature 10 out of 10 because I've always had trouble moving the helmet if it's too loose or too tight and I can't put it on. This solves all the problems I had before. Overall the helmet is of good quality, with an adjustable grip that fits your head perfectly, LED lights for safety (rechargeable via micro USB) and a nice matte blue color (no fingerprints). and looks modern and clean.
