Works well within its limitations (see full review)

This product is an affordable back that does the job adequately. So the bottom line is that it does its job effectively (offers back support and comfort), is more economical than most other products, but lacks some of the conveniences found in more expensive alternatives. In my opinion the biggest disadvantage of this product is that it has to be pulled out before the passenger gets on or off. Competitive Harley products that cost twice as much can be folded for this purpose. I don't see that as a big problem now. MADE to put on and take off the bike. In fact, only two things are necessary for this job to work well. First, the locking pin in the mount needs to be properly tensioned so that the rest stays in place during use, but slides in and out without undue force. Secondly, it requires a certain level of skill/engineering to remove and reattach very quickly. It took me six to ten times before I could do it like a pro. Now I can do it very easily and quickly. For me this is not a minus at all. But I understand that maybe not all people have the same coordination, finger strength or whatever. Some people may succeed after just one or two tries compared to my ten, or maybe some will never make it and will be upset when they see their fellow riders just about to fold up their Harley seats. Note that there are Harley seats that also detach from the bike if you want to lock it in a saddlebag or whatever. I've played around with them and found that while they fold easily to fit a passenger, they're actually a bit more difficult to detach than removing the Kuryakinsky. Finally, if you are someone who would leave the backrest attached and not take it off. To prevent theft, if you often ride with a passenger and don't mind spending maybe twice as much money on a product, then I recommend that you choose one of the Harley products to match. On the other hand, if you are a solo rider or basically want to keep your vacation away from your bike to prevent it from being stolen or just live without the ability to fold it up to save good money then this product is for you probably the right thing for you just the ticket!

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
