A great accessory for creating panoramas!

Incredible thing for taking panoramas, and even in high quality! It's very heavy for its size, so there are few non-metal parts. Preset detents provide a soft stop you can feel when you turn your head, so you know how far to turn before taking the next frame in a row. All you need is a calculation tool like the one in the pictures I've provided to determine the pan displacement so you know where to adjust the clamps. I use pointinfocus.com. You enter your camera's sensor type (full-frame, APS-C, MFT, etc.) and the focal range of your lens - don't worry about aperture or subject distance. The calculation tool tells you your angle of view and your field of view. Scrolling down the page gives you a panorama offset recommendation (in degrees) both horizontally and vertically. If the recommended offset on the pan head is not available, always decrease the value to match the available offset on the pan head to ensure sufficient overlap for your image sequence. For example, if the recommended shift is 22.5 degrees, you need to reduce it to 20 degrees. This may require taking a few extra photos, but will provide enough overlap and help improve the clarity of the transition when docking. I wanted to give an example of a 240 degree panorama I took. Unfortunately, Revain cropped the image no matter how hard I tried to upload it. But I needed enough time to align the tripod and camera plane. After figuring out the pan offset on this website, I set the lock position and started recording. The stitching was nearly flawless, requiring very little machining and little to no trimming. This head will cost you $80, but it's worth every penny when you factor in 1) frustration when you don't have enough overlap due to inconsistent shifts, and 2) extra machining effort when seams aren't smooth and precise due to inconsistent shifts . Whether you're already shooting panoramas or just starting out, this head will make your job easier and improve your results.
