I've had issues with heaters heating aquariums to crazy temperatures and killing a lot of animals so I regret not using the controller sooner. I have this controller set to hold the riff at 78 degrees and like to add a fan to control it. I also like the fact that there is an alarm system to alert you if the temperature gets out of control. Having another safety device really puts my mind at ease. I keep the probe in the sump and it continues to show stable temperature readings in my tank. Although this controller can be plugged in and used, I recommend reading the instructions and keeping them handy so you can properly remember what all the features of this controller are. Overall I am very satisfied with this product and would recommend it due to the solid construction. , ease of use and reliability.
