After struggling with extremely inaccurate cheap HF tape I was looking for something better and more accurate. Overall build quality is good, but three stars for the hook being loosely riveted at the end of the band at about 1/8th of play. My dad's vintage tape still has a nice, tight, riveted hook with no play that makes the same size every time after about 45 years of regular use. I was hoping for the same. But this one gives a measurement that's plus or minus an eighth, and you have to zero out the marked unit on the band to get something that's exactly what I was hoping to avoid when I bought this one. Spring is good design. firm, but it's not as accurate as I had hoped. Why was it possible to make duct tape with solid rivets that would last for decades in the 1970s, but not now?
