Review on πŸ”Œ WAGO 221 Lever-Nuts- Pocket Pack Wire Connector Assortment (28 Pieces): Improved SEO by Mike Robinson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great idea for wire connections but watch out for levers that don't stay pressed

Received the Wago lever nut assortment today and replaced the old socket with the new one on it just two screws. The new outlet also had two USB ports for charging electronic devices. The wires were 12 gauge and very difficult to maneuver in the small socket. I had two white neutrals on the input and two black power lines on the old outlet, plus a ground on the outlet. That meant the power went elsewhere next to the outlet I was replacing. Since there were only two screws on the new outlet, I used two Wago three-pronged jack nuts for the white neutral wires and the black power wires. I used a 2-port toggle nut for the ground wire and a pigtail of the ground wire that I attached to the ground screw on the outlet. I made pigtails for the neutral and power side of the outlet by filling all three slots on the 3 way lever nuts and then stuffing everything back into the box so I could screw the outlet to the junction box. Wagos worked relatively well. The problem I had with the lever nuts was that while I was trying to install incompatible size 12 tabs into the slots, the levers kept popping out after inserting the wire. After installing the black pigtail into the arm nut, it popped out when I tried to install the 12 gauge pigtail on the power side. The levers just don't stay down like they should. I wrapped each of the lever nuts with tape after I inserted all the wires to make sure none of the levers came open when I pushed the wires back into the box. I give the product 4 stars for its ease of use and the ability to remove the wire after insertion. However, the ease with which the levers open when manipulated is a problem. I believe manufacturers should make these levers much harder to open and close, and once closed they should remain closed until force is applied to open them. The product is not perfect, but it is an improvement over screw-on wire nuts.
