Protects against the cold, but you need to pay attention to the direction.

I have been using shrink wrap to close 2 windows and a set of French doors for years. When they finally released this top reel, it definitely made life easier! The main problem people face when this product fails to stick is most often due to improper cleaning of wood products. Forget those tiny alcohol swabs and grab a bottle of rubbing alcohol and a paper towel. Dampen a paper towel with rubbing alcohol and use some elbow grease to really clean woodwork. Time and other cleaning agents leave an oily film that needs to be removed. If you don't remove it, the tape will come off, period. After cleaning I put the tape on 3 sides but don't remove the outer layer until the plastic roll is attached and I open the plastic. When it's cold, I heat the tape and wood with a hair dryer and I also rub the tape thoroughly to make it stick. It's also a good idea to insulate the top tape, as with a window that lets cold air in, the wood structure may not be warm enough for the tape to stick. When it's done I leave the backing on to allow the tape to stay firmly in place for at least 15-20 minutes. Finally, I remove the backing from one side, line up the plastic on the tape, and confidently run my fingers up and down the tape, leaving the bottom side last. When plastic is made this way, the shrinkage process is minimal because you already have the sides lined up correctly and straight, so there are no bumps or creases. I've done each window and they are nice and clear, glued firmly and correctly. This is not the product to use if you use labels and don't clean properly or pay attention to the minimum temperatures you need to work.
