Review on ๐Ÿ”Œ BatteryMINDer 128CEC1: High Performance 12V Battery Charger, Maintainer & Desulfator by David Stewart

One of the best if not the best battery charger/maintainer

Excellent charger/battery maintainer at a great price ($135). Includes a temperature sensor not on the device (which can be detected when the device heats up), uses Sae plugs, desulphates whenever there is a charge (great feature - others only do this if you put them on these Set mode) and can charge conventional, gel and agm batteries. It might not sound like the fanciest of chargers, but it definitely gets everyone else going - and the good thing about it. You may need to find out a bit more about what's going on (e.g. picking the right amperage - if you're not in a hurry and the battery is off, choose the lowest, or if it's under load, choose that option that is currently higher than the load). I know desulfation works, I've used it to restore batteries (although it takes a while) - and it conveniently analyzes and revitalizes batteries over time. My previous Noco g3500 used to charge a dead battery and then you had to put it into recovery mode, but that usually stopped after a period of time. When the battery is severely degraded it can take a long time and as part of this process the battery needs to be charged more (with increasing capacity). This type fully charges the battery and performs desulphation, testing every 12 hours. It works well and it's a dream. It can also charge up to 6 batteries at once (I bought a $14 Sae 5-point connector), which is great for a charger at this price point. The only downside is that all batteries must have the same state of charge (and general condition). This is why I like Noco's multi-bank chargers, but again, they're a lot more expensive. Oh, and you can get a longer "on battery" temp gauge if you want to tape yours to the wall and charge a car that's parked outside (and there's a light that shows the full range of the temp gauge so you can make sure that it works properly) . Another great feature is that it's a kind of "future-proofing". My Noco g3500 has an AGM setting but it doesn't put out enough voltage for batteries like the Optima. To do this, you need to purchase a higher quality charger (in the case of Noco, it will be a charger with "AGM+"). This is a great feature if you're ever considering buying a different type of battery. As for parasitic losses - I haven't tested this personally, but I understand if the device just keeps the actual power consumption very low (and can only be powered by the battery itself, which is where the power likely comes from at rest). Overall I am very happy with the purchase. I wish I had gotten something like this a while ago! If you want to save money, just get plugs from other manufacturers (a 3-prong cable from them is $35, and the included fuse and knowing the plug will mate are major benefits). Just make sure they have the right fuse. I got an extra set of alligator clips from a battery tender, but they come with a 7.5 amp fuse, so it's best to replace the fuse if you plan on using them in the 8 amp configuration.
