Review on ☕ Clear Kalita Wave Style 185 Coffee Brewer by Rose Sanchez

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Catch a wave and hang ten!

I roast my own coffee beans and have been making coffee for many years. I'm excited to see the latest and greatest innovations in the world of coffee making, but I'm not just trying to jump on the bandwagon because of the hype. After a few weeks of research I decided to try the Wave before trying the Hario V60. I was particularly drawn to this setup because of the all-in-one pipette and carafe. If you have a collection of coffee makers like I do, sometimes simplicity can be a blessing! Although I haven't been able to fully explore and try all the possible scenarios (brown and white filters), this wave is against metal 185s, I can tell you it's definitely a better and more complex cup compared to a Melitta pour Coffee brews over, Aeropress (I've tried dozens of methods of cooking with this thing) and a Capresso Coffeteam Therm! These are all the devices I have and currently use, but not the ones I have "archived" in storage. Not being new to the world of draft coffee, I've had very little time to learn this device. I already have a top of the line scale and a Bonavita adjustable gooseneck kettle so I can get consistent bean weight, water temperature, and spout control to reduce errors. I've only been brewing beer with this machine for three weeks and so far it hasn't let me down. My only concern is that since the dropper is glass and has flat sides, it will create a different cup than a metal wave with "ribbed" sides? I need to make a purchase and find out! If you're considering this machine your world's first infuser coffee, do yourself a favor and skip it! Seriously, don't waste your money on this coffee maker until you know what you're doing and can confidently make a sturdy cup with other much cheaper pouring devices (Melitta). Only then will you truly understand and appreciate the complexity of this brewery.
