I love cross tool boxes and have been using them for many years. I recently (April 2021) got a Taco 08 with a nice camper case, my cross-platform toolkit doesn't work. I figured two swingcases could replace it. Makes it? Most of time. It is a "One Box Fits All" design with multiple mounts for different trucks. This is indeed for a short platform, my 6 inch bed has the tool box arch well behind the wheel arch. Here are some installation tips for the 08 Tacoma. The basic process is to first remove the top rear torx screw of the storage tray (you will need a T30 bit) and reinstall it using the appropriate part of the hinge bracket. Also, there are four holes in the hinge bracket that you need to drill into the side of the bed with the self-tapping screws (supplied). Once you reinsert the torx you will see that the clevis has a slight up/down play. Line it up and use two pieces of tape (top and bottom) to hold it in place while you drill. DO NOT run it as fast as you can. Once the drilled portion is complete and reaches the thread THEN STOP DRILLING! Work the rest of the way slowly with a hand wrench (7/16" I think). If you buzz too hard you can rip it off, then you'll be in big trouble (you could probably rivet it). Just pull each one gently tighten one until you drill all four holes then hand tighten this is a very clever design there was an update I have a newer one changes I know the original cup holder on top could hold water this open side Also new is a clasp lock that prevents the tool box from coming loose from the hinges. It's plastic, hitting it with a hammer will break it. There's also a metal hinge that can be jammed. The clasp itself, which is plastic, is one of the first things that can wear out. Two bolts and interchangeable, however. The lid hinges are simply bent ABS as mentioned. People mentioned handmade loops. Draining would be nice if S ie would do so much (easy to add I think). Are you using my cross bed tool kit? Most of time. I carried large and heavy clothes in it that wouldn't work in a swing case. I always carry a Hi-Lift jack, chains, straps, an ax and saws. You don't have a jack. Organizational skills are good. Heavy objects below. Being able to provide it certainly makes it more accessible than my large toolbox.
