Review on πŸ’» Cable Matters HDMI to VGA Adapter: High-Quality HDMI to VGA Converter in Sleek Black Design by Heather Oliver

Excellent for connecting an HP Chromebox to an old VGA monitor

Bought this HDMI to VGA adapter (which comes with a USB power cable) to connect a new HP Chromebox (CB1 -014) for use with very old LCDs. Works great - just plug and play. Allows you to use an old 15-pin D-Sub VGA cable to connect to an LCD monitor. (Note: HDMI cables provide audio, VGA cables do not. So a person will need a separate 3.5mm audio cable to send audio to the speakers they are using. As I've already talked about a 3.5mm stereo cable got to transfer audio was nothing else .. for me.) Note. On the Chromebox, the two front ports are clearly labeled as USB power ports (note that they supply both power and data). Make sure this HDMI to VGA adapter is connected with the included power cable (USB A Male to Micro USB B Male). Using this power cord on a plain USB data port may not deliver enough power - actually idk - as first of all I don't know what is the minimum power required to run this HDMI to VGA adapter. I suspect that all the negative reviews of this item are due to people not using the INCLUDED power cord or perhaps plugging that cable into a data-only USB port, but I am actually suspecting here. (Note: The USB power cable connects to both the USB-A power port and the USB Micro-B port on the block side of this HDMI to VGA adapter.)

Pros
  • Useful for more than its intended purpose
Cons
  • Minor
