Don't listen to the naysayers

My new Dell computer only has an analog VGA monitor port making it impossible to use my second monitor. Dell customer support advised me to buy an HDMI to VGA converter. When I bought the converter locally, numerous "experts" told me in no uncertain terms that it either didn't exist or wouldn't work because VGA is analog and HDMI is digital. Including Walmart, Radio Shack, AAFES. Everyone advised me to get a new HDMI monitor. Which I didn't want as the new monitor would have a different shape…

Pros
  • Quick swap
Cons
  • Poorly thought out

Works great with a little tweaking

This thing saved me. I ordered two monitors at a deep discount; These are really great monitors, but they ONLY have VGA connectors (in 2015 I know). I had no problems with one monitor, DVI to VGA worked fine but the second DVI is obviously digital only so I had to look for a solution. The graphics card had HDMI so I tried it and it works great! Two things to note: 1. It may be delayed very slightly. You won't be able to talk about common things like surfing the web, editing documents and even…

Pros
  • Very good price
Cons
  • No instructions

Useful if you know what you're doing

Unexpected quirk: doesn't seem to need 5V to work Anyhow, I've tested this unit on a few settings and I think I've got something found it is for seizures. If you need to convert PC/Laptop HDMI output to VGA (D-Sub) for monitor or projector setup, then this product is for you. I used this to match my laptop with an old projector and it worked like a charm once I corrected the settings. To make sure it works, you need to make sure the resolution and refresh rate you are using is compatible with…

Pros
  • Great for me

Excellent for connecting an HP Chromebox to an old VGA monitor

Bought this HDMI to VGA adapter (which comes with a USB power cable) to connect a new HP Chromebox (CB1 -014) for use with very old LCDs. Works great - just plug and play. Allows you to use an old 15-pin D-Sub VGA cable to connect to an LCD monitor. (Note: HDMI cables provide audio, VGA cables do not. So a person will need a separate 3.5mm audio cable to send audio to the speakers they are using. As I've already talked about a 3.5mm stereo cable got to transfer audio was nothing else .. for…

Pros
  • Useful for more than its intended purpose
Cons
  • Minor

Works well, does what it promises. No setup issues - just works.

Purchased to play Google Play Movies from a Chromebook on an older VGA projector. Worked like a charm, no fuss. Once the Chromebook's HDMI output was connected to this adapter and the adapter was connected to the projector's VGA input, everything worked. The Chromebook immediately saw the second display, set it to the highest resolution supported by the projector, and we were gone. The picture quality was very good, as good as VGA allows. The only problem is the sound. HDMI sends audio along…

Pros
  • Acceptable
Cons
  • Definitely a bad product

Exactly what I needed!

I recently replaced a 3 year old computer in the office. I've had a dual monitor setup for years; which have always been powered by either a single dual output graphics card or two graphics cards in tandem. These cards are the result of being a hardcore gamer after dark; So they were always on top and driving those two large LCD monitors with ease. But: My gaming time is over; So I decided to build a new PC based on a motherboard with integrated video (huh?). However, I wanted to keep the dual…

Pros
  • I like everything so far
Cons
  • The impression is negative
