My new Dell computer only has an analog VGA monitor port making it impossible to use my second monitor. Dell customer support advised me to buy an HDMI to VGA converter. When I bought the converter locally, numerous "experts" told me in no uncertain terms that it either didn't exist or wouldn't work because VGA is analog and HDMI is digital. Including Walmart, Radio Shack, AAFES. Everyone advised me to get a new HDMI monitor. Which I didn't want as the new monitor would have a different shape than the old monitor, which would reduce the effectiveness of dual monitors. I decided to do one last look at the converters before ordering a new monitor and found the Cable Matters adapter. I'm glad I tried. I connected the cable and power supply and my second monitor works the same as before. (I tried just using the cable but the monitor was too dim and turned off. A power supply is required even though it occupies a USB port.)
