Purchased to play Google Play Movies from a Chromebook on an older VGA projector. Worked like a charm, no fuss. Once the Chromebook's HDMI output was connected to this adapter and the adapter was connected to the projector's VGA input, everything worked. The Chromebook immediately saw the second display, set it to the highest resolution supported by the projector, and we were gone. The picture quality was very good, as good as VGA allows. The only problem is the sound. HDMI sends audio along with video, while VGA does not. This created a small issue as the Chromebook thought the audio was playing over HDMI, but apparently it wasn't. This adapter does not have an audio output, but that is not a problem. We simply set up the Chromebook's audio as a set of Bluetooth speakers, and we were in business - big projected image and great sound. Great way to watch a movie. BTW: Although I mentioned the Chromebook above, I did the same setup from a Windows laptop and it had the same sound issue and solution. So, on laptops other than the Chromebook mentioned above, the behavior is the same. The only difference is that the Chromebook had enough power over HDMI to power the adapter, while the Windows laptop didn't. On Windows, I plugged in the included micro-USB cable to increase performance. The adapter came with a USB cable for this problem, which feels nice. Good quality. The quality of the film looked very good. When displaying static content such as Excel spreadsheets or PowerPoint presentations, the projector's low VGA resolution was more noticeable, but quality remained good -- clear, sharp, and vibrant colors. All is well.
