Inexpensive but useful: Headlight/Taillight Combo

I've driven under a 3 watt bulb before, so I have an idea of what to check. Nothing special here so far, except that the mounting bracket is designed for a caliper and offers limited mounting options. I can say that the headlight is cheaply constructed, but it does the job. However, this becomes a do-it-yourself LED project. The rear light is very cheap because it is a retractable lamp holder with a cable attached to the side. It stopped working on a trip due to such a cheap design, although I was soon able to reconnect. The mount is also razor thin and doesn't fit the thicker seatpost where I wanted. Again, this could be a DIY LED project. The dyno itself, all plastic with the Kent logo on a sticker and no X-Factor anywhere, seems pretty decent, but it gets pretty hot. Again, the mount is thinner than I would have liked, but strong enough that it hasn't been a problem so far. It puts out more than I expected but might need a ballast battery for fast trail riding, but it's enough for slow street riding. I measured 5 watts on a high speed street bike. The resistance isn't bad when set correctly. The instructions are few and more valuable as a trigger, but an internet search will show the setup in great detail so it doesn't really matter.

Pros
  • Headlight/Taillight Combo
Cons
  • Slightly Wrinkled
