Review on Delcast SL RL Solder Dispenser Reel by Seth Damain

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I love this article, it's perfect :)

This article is very simple in construction, but it really seems to test everything that can make it good. It's heavy enough to sit comfortably while I pull out the solder. The little solder feed hole really helps to hold the free end of the solder (when I'm done soldering I like to wrap the wire and tuck it around the feed mechanism to keep it from falling out). The pin that the spool sits on is made of a good material that allows the spool to spin easily. The handle is convenient for carrying the device and prevents the coil from falling out when it is unfolded. It's actually quite unnecessary as the way the pin holding the coil slides into the device holds it pretty tight, the handle is more of a backup should I drop the device it still is very unlikely that the spool will come out and roll. by gender :) There's nothing more to say, I just really like that he's doing a great job. I have a note: since the spool I'm using isn't as wide as the device can hold, I once fed the solder wire out of the spool and wrapped it around the center pin so it doesn't feed well. VERY minor inconvenience, only happened once, but when buying a new spool look for one that matches the width of this block (2-3/4 inches between sides).

Pros
  • Practical article
Cons
  • So far so good
